Description

PRESENTATION:
- Small and thin-stemmed variety.
- Exceptional forage yield and quality.
- Excellent heat and drought tolerance.
- Rapid growth (also at the beginning of the growing season) and ability to regrow.
- Suitable for both hay and haylage.
- Can be grazed.
- High protein content ~17-18%.
- Sherkan is usually ready for harvest 45-55 days after sowing. Protein content decreases with delay in harvest, but energy will increase due to continued sugar formation in sorghum stems and leaves and carbohydrate incorporation in developing grains.
- It is a fast wilting/drying hybrid, so can be used in areas where other Sudanese crops may be difficult to place.
- Suitable for multiple mowing (2-3), hay and hay making, high protein, well digestible, good drought tolerant hybrid.
- Sowing: from early May to July, from soil temperature of 15 degrees. Harvesting after about 45 to 50 days from emergence, at a height of 90 to 110 cm.
