Description
Murielle lettuce is an organic seed that can be grown in the open field and in foil all year round. It produces heavy, dark green, closed heads with a delicate, fresh flavour. The outer leaves do not brown and are resistant to rot.
It can be sown as a second crop up to mid-September, then grown in foliage.
Breeding period: 63-68 days.
Can be sown in foil or in a covered hill bed at the end of January.
Lettuce is a cold-hardy crop and spring or autumn is the optimum growing season. This variety can also be grown in summer, but it does not like heat waves.
For outdoor sowing, loosen the soil in the autumn and add good quality compost or humus, or decomposed organic fertiliser. Choose a place for lettuce seeds or seedlings that is sufficiently sunny. Sow the seeds 1-2 cm deep in 15 cm rows, scattering them sparsely, cover with soil and compact slightly. Once the plantlets are 1-2 cm thick, thin out the stand, leaving 5-6 cm between each plantlet to allow sufficient space for development when they are ready to head. You can also transplant the lettuce plantlets you have cut out to another place, in which case make sure that the roots are intact and that they are sufficiently moist.
Murielle lettuce is an excellent source of fibre. Thanks to its 95% water content, it has a diuretic effect and stimulates both blood and kidney function. It contains many vitamins and minerals such as vitamins A, C, K and B, as well as calcium, iron and magnesium.
